The spring is located on land that once belonged to Colonel Thomas Amis, father-in-law of Rogersville’s founder,\u00a0<\/span>Joseph Rogers<\/a>. It is referred to as “Sinking Spring” in a\u00a0<\/span>land grant<\/a>\u00a0given to Amis by the\u00a0<\/span>General Assembly<\/a>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>North Carolina<\/a>\u00a0for his services during the\u00a0<\/span>American Revolution<\/a>. Amis settled the area in around 1780. His\u00a0<\/span>fort-like house<\/a>\u00a0is a few tenths of a mile from the spring. \u00a0The spring is located<\/a> about 2 miles from the city of Rodgersville,TN off of Ebbing Flowing Spring Road of course.<\/span><\/p>\n

A little under\u00a0every 3 hours, the spring’s flow ranges from an indiscernible trickle to 500 gallons per minute. As other sources mention though the water in the Ebbing and Flowing Spring does not maintain a constant temperature of 34\u00a0\u00b0F, it is typically 50 to 55 degrees. Also chalking it up to creative travel brochure writing, the spring while\u00a0is\u00a0often cited as only one of two in the world, when in reality there are 23 ebb and flow springs in the US. \u00a0This ebbing and flowing stream however is\u00a0the the most serene in the world.<\/span><\/p>\n
